Motivation Monday: A Little Consistency Goes a Long Way
I think most of us have a few things we know we should be doing regularly. Maybe it’s related to work, exercise, family, finances, or a goal we’ve been working toward. Starting with good intentions is usually the easy part. Staying with it several weeks or months later can be a different story.
That’s one reason I liked this quote from Vincent van Gogh:
“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.”
I can think of plenty of examples in my own life where this has been true. There wasn’t one particular day when everything changed. It was simply a matter of continuing to work at something long enough to eventually see the results.
I see the same thing after more than 20 years in real estate. People sometimes ask about the one improvement they should make before selling, the perfect time to buy, or the decision that will make the biggest difference. Those questions are certainly worth asking, but years of homeownership tend to involve hundreds of smaller decisions along the way.
Taking care of the house, making improvements when you can, paying down the mortgage, keeping an eye on your finances, and making good decisions as circumstances change can add up to quite a bit over time.
The same principle applies to plenty of things outside of real estate.
So my goal for this week is pretty simple. I’m going to keep working on the things I’ve already decided are worth working on and try to be a little more consistent with them.
Sometimes that's enough of a goal for one week.
Have a great Monday!
